Eyewear in the films of Wes Anderson

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Have you ever noticed the theme of eyewear in the fantastically kooky films of Wes Anderson?  With a penchant for glasses and sunglasses of the 1970s we take a look at the role specs play in a few of his films.

Darjeeling Limited

Adrian Brody’s character Peter Whitman insists on wearing his late father’s prescription sunglasses (one of many items of his father’s he has held onto) during his journey of self discovery across India with his brothers who are played by Jason Schwartzman and Owen Wilson.  To get the look see our selection of stylish vintage 70s sunglasses.

Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Bill Murray stars as an eccentric oceanographer, who may remind audiences of Jacques-Yves Cousteau.  Many cast members wear 70s style aviators in this film of man versus beast which was filmed in the beautiful Italian riviera.

The Royal Tenebaums

Gene Hackman as disasterous father Royal Tenenbaum in signature specs that are very similar to Black Eyewear Dexter.  Luke Wilson as Richie Tenenbaum a tennis prodigy who suffers a nervous breakdown and secretly loves his adopted sister Margot (Gwenyth Paltrow).  Similarities exist between Richie and Bjorn Borg, one of these is choice of eyewear similar to Black Eyewear Quincy.  Also pictured here is Bill Murray as Raleigh St Clair, a famous neurologist and husband of Margot who wears small round metal frames.
