The Lady Vanishes

Saturday, March 23rd, 2013

Last weekend saw the broadcast of BBC remake of classic Alfred Hitchcock film The Lady Vanishes.  By all accounts this version follows the original 1936 novel by Ethel Lina White, The Wheel Spins, more closely; however, it is no Hitchcock and much of the humour of the 1938 film was lost.  There were wonderful vintage glasses throughout.

Grace of Monaco

Friday, March 15th, 2013

2013 will see the release of a film about Grace Kelly’s crisis of marriage and identity in the 1960s while Monaco faced a French invasion.  This unofficial biography is sure to cause controversy.

Nicole Kidman stars as Grace Kelly with Tim Roth as Prince Rainier III.  Both actors wear vintage glasses and sunglasses.  Grace Kelly wore both Oliver Goldsmith and Francois Pinton eyewear however those in the film look very much like the Black EyewearPeggy‘.

Made in Dagenham

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Today is International Women’s Day and what better way to celebrate than with a film all about equal rights for women with, of course, a few vintage glasses as well!

Made in Dagenham a dramatization of the 1968 strike which took place at the Ford plant in Dagenham. Female sewing machinist workers walked out due to pay inequality.  Successful, the strike directly resulted in the 1970 Equal Pay Act.

Starring Sally Hawkins, Rosamund Pike, Jaime Winstone, Andrea Riseborough and Miranda Richardson, it is Bob Hoskins as union rep Albert Passingham whose glasses really stand out as spot on 1950s/60s in the film.

Made in Dagenham will be shown on BBC 2 Saturday at 9pm.
