Arthur Miller – The Misfit?

Arthur Miller was an author and playwright of great acclaim best known for The Crucible, Death of a Salesman, and A View from the Bridge.  He also received notoriety for his marriage to Marilyn Monroe in 1956 and the testimony he gave to the House Un-American Activities Comittee.  He was a specs wearer and, like the name of the film he wrote, a bit of a misfit.  Here are some frames of the 1950s similar to those he and his wife wore.

 

 

Plumen Lightbulb Designer Wears Vintage

Design is important to us at Roope Vintage and is evident in our collection of vintage and reproduction glasses and sunglasses.  Design also runs in the Roope family.

London design group Hulger has won awards for its eco friendly light bulb, Plumen. The world’s first designer low-energy light bulb was co-designed by Nicholas Roope, son of Robert Roope.  Here he is wearing fab retro Anglo American Princeton glasses while demonstrating the versitility of the Plumen!

 

Dr Who in Black Eyewear

The latest series of Dr Who got off to an exciting start over the Bank Holiday weekends.  The first two episodes were packed with fantastic 1950s frames as well as lots of FBI agents in black sunglasses.  Roope Vintage supplied frames to the show earlier this year so look out for Black Eyewear in future episodes!

Vintage Spectacles in The King’s Speech

If you haven’t seen the phenomenal The King’s Speech you should go this weekend!  The film has been nominated for 12 Oscars including ‘Actor in a Supporting Role’ for Geoffrey Rush.  Rush, who plays eccentric speech therapist Lionel Logue, wears some classic round frames of the period throughout the film.

 

Off screen the actor has been spotted at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards and the BFI London Film Awards in frames similar to the Anglo American 406
