Recent BBC2 drama mini-series Life in Squares was not received with huge acclaim however we noted it for the vintage frames. Last week’s BBC 2 historical drama Castles in the Sky was the wonderful telling of the invention of the radar which was so important in the Battle of Britain. Starring Eddie Izzard as spectacle-wearing inventor Robert Watson-Watt, actors Alex Jennings and Julian Rhind-Tutt also wore glasses appropriate to the 1940s as Henry Tizzard and Albert Percival Rowe.

Last weekend saw the broadcast of BBC remake of classic Alfred Hitchcock film The Lady Vanishes. By all accounts this version follows the original 1936 novel by Ethel Lina White, The Wheel Spins, more closely; however, it is no Hitchcock and much of the humour of the 1938 film was lost. There were wonderful vintage glasses throughout.
This quirky film from the directors of Little Miss Sunshine is an original take on an unconventional love story, starring Paul Dano as Calvin Weir-Fields and Zoe Kazan as his invention Ruby Sparks. Calvin wears classic frames throughout in true literary style. While director Jonathan Dayton also wears frames similar to Black Eyewear Woody.
