Hyde Park on Hudson

Hyde Park on Hudson is a film about the love affair between FDR and Margaret Suckley and is based on her diaries.  The story centers around the weekend in  1939 when FDR was visited by the King and Queen of England in upstate New York.  With a touch of comedy Bill Murray portrays FDR and wears wonderful pince-nez glasses.  This British production has a stellar cast and will be released in the UK on the 1st of February.

Good Bye Amy Pond

This week’s episode of Dr Who, The Angels Take Manhattan, saw the Doctor say good bye to Amy Pond.  The Doctor and Amy both wore vintage round glasses similar to the Black Eyewear Chico or the Anglo American 400.

 

 

Vintage Oval Glasses in Anna Karenina

Russian classic Anna Karenina has yet again been made into a film.  This version features a screenplay written by Tom Stoppard and stars Kiera Knightley (Anna Karenina) and Jude Law (Count Vronsky).  The character Count Vronsky wears vintage oval glasses appropriate to the period and similar to our Saville Row Oval Padless Gold frames.

 

 

Mad Men Misses Out

Although nominated in many categories Mad Men did not come away from this year’s Emmys a winner.  Pipped to the post time and again by Homeland we were disappointed our favourite vintage glasses inspiration missed out on the prize.

Roope Vintage at Goodwood Revival 2012

It has been exactly one week since Roope Vintage exhibited at Goodwood Revival 2012.  This year’s festival broke all the records and was a sell-out event with a record number of attendees!  Motor racing hero Dan Gurney was honoured in style and celebrities Ewan McGregor, Kim Cattrall and Rowan Atkinson were spotted amongst the motor racing enthusiasts.  We had a great time too and it was lovely to catch up with familiar faces we haven’t seen for a while.

 

The Great Gatsby

Look out for a new film version of F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby directed by Baz Luhrman and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Toby Maguire, and Joel Edgerton.  While none of the characters wears specs (at least that we’ve seen so far), the ‘eyes of Dr T J Eckleburg hold great significance as they watch the characters and events from the giant billboard over the side of the  road.  The film will be in UK cinemas this December.
